The modular BayCom USCC-Card: USCC>4

The BayCom USCC>4 is an universal 16 bit slotcard for IBM's standard ISA bus. The basic card integrates the digital part and four generic modem slots. In each of them, a piggy-back modem can be inserted. There are different modems for all baudrates used in today's packet radio operation. All modems can be combined randomly. Thus, the USCC>4 is the basis for a universal packet radio station, growing with the user's requirements. In the following, the basis card and the modems available at the moment are described in detail. We only added some schematics to keep this file small, if you want to see some photographs of the new card, click here (~50kB!).

USCC>4 Basis Card

The USCC>4 basis card carries the ISA bus interface for the IBM-PC, a central clock generation unit and two serial communication controller (Z8530) for synchronous data transmission. The card has four slots for piggyback modems of the size 50mm * 90mm. The radio connectors of the first two modems are on the bracket at the rear side of the card. The last two modem slots show a 10 pin connector allowing the connection of two 9p-SUB-D connectors via an extension cable, as usual with many RS-232 cards. The cards allocates 8 I/O addresses in the PC's I/O address space, selectable via jumpers. Additionally, the card requires an interrupt. Because the card has a 16 bit slot, interrupts 3,4,5,7 or 10-15 are selectable via jumpers. The card is also usable as an 8 bit card, if the extension connector is removed and only the lower interrupts are used. Up to two cards can be operated in one PC. The card is binary compatible to the previous versions, thus all drivers (BayCom, G8BPQ, TFPCX etc.) can be used.

Modem with TCM3105 for USCC>4

This modem is used for Bell-202 operation with 1200Bd, as used on the VHF/UHF bands worldwide. The baudrate can be boosted to 2400Bd by crystal replacement. Our low - cost standard modem for the USCC>4. On-board LED for PTT control.

Modem with AM7911 for USCC>4

This modem features two operating modes: 1200 Bd according to Bell-202 as used on the VHF/UHF bands and 300Bd according to Bell-103, as used on the HF bands. A jumper allows switching between both modes. Two different frequency offsets for Bell-103 and equalizer operation for Bell-202 are also selectable via a jumper. By connecting two external LEDs, the modem provides a simple tuning indicator for HF, an additional LED is on board for PTT control.

DF9IC-Modem for USCC>4

This modem, assembled very compact by an extensive use of SMD components, is exactly identical to our article 9110. It is an FSK modem for 9600Bd, fully G3RUH compatible. By replacement of five capacitors, baudrates of 19200 or 38400 Bd can be achieved, too. On board LED for PTT control. Loopback and Bit error test facilities. Only available as assembled unit, due to use of SMD components.

There are several other modems under construction for the USCC>4, for example a low cost 9600Bd FSK modem and a 4800Bd PSK modem. Watch this WWW server for relase information!
