The
BayCom-Team![]()
The picture above shows the legendary BayCom team during one of their dreaded 48-hour business meetings in Fritz's private (beer) garden. The usual suspects are (from the left): Fritz DF2RF, Flori DL8MBT, Christian DL5RL, Johannes DG3RBU, Rudi DK5RQ.
Flori, DL8MBT and Johannes, DG3RBU started the BayCom activities in the late 1980's, when they both were students. Flori is the man behind the BayCom terminal, mailbox and node software. Nowadays, Flori works as a software project manager for a comapany in Munich, Bavaria.
Johannes develops the BayCom hardware, either by himself or in cooperation with others. He also takes care of all BayCom activities abroad. In fact, he goes places quite a bit. With tears in his eyes, Johannes said good-bye to Bavaria a few years ago and crossed the "white sausage equator" to pursue a PhD in electronics at the University of Hannover. These days he works for a German multi-national company famous for electronic car accessories, still within inline skating distance of the North Sea (by Bavarian standards).
While not at work for BayCom projects, both can be found on top of various Bavarian mountains.
Rudi, DK5RQ is responsible for the domestic sales activities of the team. He joined the team in 1990. In 1995, he celebrates his 25th anniversary as a licenced radio amateur. Rudi works as a nurse at a Regensburg hospital. As is evident from the picture, Rudi is the strongest guy in the team - perhaps because he can drink twice as much beer as the rest of 'em?
Christian, DL5RL supports Rudi in his work. He also looks after the BayCom activities at ham fairs, exhibitions, and conventions. If he is not at work (as a programmer with an engineering firm), he can usually be found on the Autobahn with his BMW, training for those hidden transmitter microwave foxhunting contests that the police put on for anyone fast enough to qualify...
Fritz, DF2RF used to take care of user support and the internet activities of the BayCom team. We also used to be able to count on him whenever a hamfest was on. Fritz suddenly died in 1995. We really miss him!
